Leadership Mindset in Action

Updated: Jan 6, 2023

You can’t hide this truth…especially from students and teachers.

One aspect of education which is unique from the business world, is the cyclical schedule.

Teachers know the administration will be intense on 2 or 3 “New School Year Initiatives” which may affect them from about September to November. By January, the initiative is off the radar.

Students are similar. They know to follow the strict dress code from September until the winter holiday. After that, students walk the hallways in short shorts and noticeable underwear. Yes, this is caused by leadership.

A leader’s reaction to a situation is predictable only when they are consistent with their priorities. For example, a teacher knows how their principal will react when they have a senior who has a 59% as a final grade for their course that is required to graduate.

The leader has already set a precedent.

Will there be a confrontation?

Or is the leader oblivious and will never notice the student’s failure.

Previous actions are the reality.

The presence of the leader on a campus at any time is predictable. It’s the choice of the leader.

One principal on their feet is worth 3 in their seat.

Do teachers and students know that the school leader may walk into a classroom at any time?

Or do the students not even recognize the leader when they see them in the front office. It’s the leader’s choice.
